Independence Community Information

Residents of Independence and Winter Garden enjoy living in an area where the economy is booming and the employment opportunities are abundant. The metropolitan city of Orlando serves as a major high-technology and industry center with Lockheed-Martin, General Dynamics, Mitsubishi Power Systems and Veritas/Seagate among others, headquartered here. Other industries that contribute to the overall economy of Orange County include entertainment, tourism, electronic gaming, and food and services, hospitality and aerospace. Additionally, Orlando is the home to two non-profit hospital systems, the Florida Hospital and Orlando Health. Because the unemployment rate within the Greater Orlando area has been low, the result of urban sprawl within the surrounding areas and neighborhoods such as Independence is evident. The construction of the local town center just west of the Village of Bridgewater will also provide residents with ample employment opportunities as it will include residential, retail, light industrial and office spaces to ensure the self-sufficiency of the village.

Independence is within proximity to a number of sites of interests and attractions. Since the community is located just north of Walt Disney World and its host of attractions, rides, and family-fun entertainment, residents can easily make the short drive for a day of fun-filled adventure and fun. Residents can even check out a few other points of interest such as the Elvis Presley Museum, Orlando Science Center, Sea World, Universal Studios, Gatorland, and the Florida Citrus Bowl, to name a few.

If shopping is more of your idea of a good time, then be sure to check out the Florida Mall. Known as the largest mall in Orlando, the Florida Mall offers shoppers over 50 million square feet of shops, including 250 stores and seven major department stores. Once you’re done with the Florida Mall, the Mall at Millenia, Orlando Fashion Square and the Festival Bay Mall awaits you.

Designed to incorporate the neighborhood into the area’s natural surroundings, residents of Independence along with its other counterpart neighborhoods throughout the village have access to a number of parks, recreational areas, and sports fields. In addition, the builders were conscious to incorporate greenbelts into the original design to not only preserve the wildlife corridors and wetlands, but to also create stunning vistas that provide nature-based recreation for its residents.

For residents wishing to venture out into the immediate area, the city of Winter Garden features a number of public facilities for all to enjoy. In addition to the West Orange Trail, residents can head out to Lake Apopka to fish, boat, swim, and take part in a number of water-related activities. Golfers will be pleased to know that Independence is within distance to at least ten golf courses, including the 18-hole Killarney West Golf Course, West Orange County Club, Orange County National Golf Center, and Stoneybrook West, to name a few.
